SOCIAL JUSTICE
"Parishes need to be bridge-builders, reminding us
that we are part of a Universal Church with ties of faith
and humanity to sisters and brothers all over the world....A
key test of a parish's 'Catholicity' is its willingness
to go beyond its boundaries to serve those in need and work
for justice and peace" (U.S. Catholic Bishops, Communities
of Salt and Light).
Catholic Social Teaching calls us beyond the geographic
boundaries of our own parishes and beyond the barriers of
race, ethnicity, gender, economic status and nationality.

St Vincent DePaul Society

Sacred Heart and St Brigid Haiti Committee

in Lexington. We jointly raise money to support schools
in Fond Des Blanc, our sister parish in Haiti. Several members
of our community have visited Haiti in order to strengthen
our ties with them. Contact Mona Leary at 781-862-2824 for
additional information.

Respect Life Committee meets about
once a month at the home of a committee member. Our activities
include the Respect Life Walk held each year in October
in Boston, the annual Mother's Day Flower sale, and organizing
donations of needed baby items. Our primary goal is to provide
help and support to expectant and new single mothers. For
more information, please contact Mary Lou Knight at 781-862-3634.

Food and Clothing Drives Our parish
holds an annual adult clothing drive for St. Francis House
in late November or early December. We also collect Thanksgiving
Dinners for St. Patrick Parish in Roxbury the weekend before
Thanksgiving. Both of these weekend collections have a long
history and need volunteers to continue to serve our community.
Volunteers are needed to be available at the mudroom of
the Parish Center as food and clothing are dropped off and
to drive the food and clothing into the city. For more information,
please contact Gerry Abegg at 781-862-0388.
